Dandara Renews Support For Talented Footballer

Wednesday 5 May in Business

A talented Island sportsman is keeping his dreams of a successful football career alive with the help of the Dandara Group.

The award-winning homebuilder has renewed its sponsorship of 20-year-old local amputee footballer Sean Jackson for a further year.

Restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic have meant a frustrating 12 months for the player who recently returned to Manchester following five months in the Isle of Man after the majority of scheduled matches and training sessions were halted.

However, he recently started training again with the England Under 21s amputee squad and will resume training with Manchester City’s ‘City in the Community’ amputee squad in mid-May.

He was selected in the provisional England squad for last year’s European Cup Finals before the pandemic caused the tournament to be postponed until this September.

Jackson, the 2018 Isle of Man Disability Sportsperson of the Year, is currently in the second year of a Football Coaching and Management degree at Etihad Campus University in Manchester.

He previously played locally for Laxey, Marown and St Georges.

Sean explained: ‘The past 12 months have been surreal for all of us and football has understandably taken a backseat along with many other activities. Even when we did resume training, there were new measures in place to protect the players such as full PPE and, for a while, we were not able to eat together in the evening. However, the fact we are training and still have lots to look forward is brilliant.

‘International amputee football is still run as a charity with players and coaches required to fund themselves so sponsorship is critical to the squad’s progression.

‘Being involved with the England and Manchester City set-ups is an incredible experience and I am so grateful to Dandara for its ongoing support.’

Dandara Marketing Manager, Angela Beresford, added: ‘We are so pleased to continue our support for Sean who is a dedicated young man with a positive mindset. Despite the challenges of the past 12 months he has worked hard to maintain his fitness whilst keeping up his studies and is determined not to let this opportunity pass him by as he strives for a career in football.’
