Tech Talks at Mountain View return for their third Series!

Wednesday 25 August in Business

Back for their third series, the highly popular Tech Talks at Mountain View are becoming a firm fixture on the Autumn / Winter calendar. These informal high quality informational talks and discussions welcome a range of speakers covering a wide range of subjects and aim to help nurture innovation and enterprise, especially in the North of the Isle of Man.

AFD Group MD David Doricott explains:

“We first launched Tech Talks at Mountain View in 2019 after recognising that as a company whose primary business is Computer Software, that we were constantly updating ourselves on the latest technology trends and advances but that there were a vast amount of people in the local community who also had a lot of questions and concerns around these same subjects but weren’t able to readily access information. Tech Talks was launched as an initiative to share some of that knowledge throughout the local community by drawing on our own experiences, contacts and infrastructure to facilitate these completely free sessions.”

With the pandemic generating an increase in demand for online shopping, gaming, video conferencing and generally accessing online services, it naturally follows that there has been a surge of cyber criminals targeting people online. With this in mind, the 2021/22 series of talks will launch on Thursday 23rd September with the hot topic: “Data Breach? – That Would Never Happen To Me!”

Presented by Colin Tansley, MD of Intelect Group, career investigator and former senior police officer, the talk will explore the tactics that cyber criminals are now employing to gain access to your data. Using real life examples, Colin will focus on social engineering; the art of exploiting human psychology, rather than technical hacking techniques, to gain access to buildings, systems or data and arm you with the knowledge to spot the signs so that you can keep both your personal data and company data secure.

Lindsey Corkill, Events, Venues & Tenancies Manager at Mountain View is excited about the upcoming series telling us :

“This year we have responded to concerns raised by and topics inspired by feedback from our own community of entrepreneurs and SME’s based at Mountain View as well as feedback from previous audience members and we have a really exciting line up of speakers coming up this Winter. In October we welcome Kristan McDonald, Chief Technology Officer from Pushologies and Vice Chair of the Chamber of Commerce exploring the topic “The Future of Mann – What does it hold for you and your Business?” followed in November by Chris Gledhill, MD of PDMS , tackling the topic of digital identity. Everyone is welcome to join us; you don’t need to be a business owner or part of the MV Community, and to make things as accessible as possible, we have arranged for our onsite Babbage’s Bistro to be open from 5.30pm to allow people to purchase food and refreshments prior to the talk which begins at 6.45pm - ideal for those coming straight from work!”
