New PA System for Yn Chruinnaght with Manx Lottery Trust Support

Tuesday 15 June in Community

A grant of more than £1,800 has been awarded to Yn Cruinnaght by Manx Lottery Trust to upgrade its PA system.

Yn Chruinnaght, which translates to ‘the gathering’ in Manx Gaelic, is a celebration of Manx culture and the relationship between the Isle of Man and five other Celtic countries; Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany. Run by a group of like-minded individuals who love all things Celtic, each July the group holds a Celtic Gathering which encompasses traditional music, dance, language, arts and crafts and more.

Yn Chruinnaght’s old PA was dated and struggling to cope with the demand of large events, but the group was concerned about the length of time it would take to fund a new system so reached out to Manx Lottery Trust for help. The Trust was pleased to offer its support to fund the new and improved equipment, which can be used at events for up to 400 people in addition to outdoor occasions. It has already been used at a number of local events including Peel Carnival and local band Retrospect’s gig.

Dave Rowles from Yn Chruinnaght said: ‘We are so grateful for the support received from Manx Lottery Trust. More than 3,000 people will benefit from the PA system each year at events such as Tynwald Day, local gigs and, of course, Yn Chruinnaght Celtic Gathering. It will also help to generate income for the group as we can hire the system out for a range of events, reducing our reliance on funding support.’

Sarah Kelly, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘Yn Chruinnaght is a well-established community group that has been celebrating the Island’s Celtic roots for a number of decades. It is important they have quality equipment for the many events they are involved in locally and we were pleased to award this grant.’
