‘From Russia with Love’ treated an audience of around 700 people to an exciting programme of some of the most popular music ever written by Russian composers. It was certainly well worth the wait after more than a year of waiting for the concert to be held due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Held in the wonderful surroundings of the Villa Marina Royal Hall, the event featured some of the best loved and most iconic of all concertos, Rachmaninov’s second piano concerto. That was the centrepiece of an afternoon which featured a variety of tones encapsulating high drama, to romance, love and tragedy, and vibrant dance , highlighting the wonderful work of Glinka, Borodin, Tchaikovsky and, guest soloist, Russian pianist Yulia Chaplina.
Works performed included Alexander Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances and , Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet overture.
Islandlife was there to capture the occasion.
