West End and Broadway star set for Isle of Man showcase

The organisers of the Manx Music Festival, affectionately known as the Guild, are delighted to announce the renowned Musical Theatre star John Owen-Jones will be performing at the Festival on Friday 29th April, 2022.

As a record-breaking West End and Broadway actor and singer who is best known for his critically acclaimed and award-winning performances as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, it is date for the diary for all fans of musical theatre.

John Owen-Jones has performed extensively as an actor in theatre and television and as an accomplished concert performer having played many solo headline shows around the UK and overseas.

Notable appearances include performances at venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and Carnegie Hall in New York. He has also appeared at the BBC Proms in the Park concerts, toured the UK in concert with Katherine Jenkins and been a special guest in concert with Michael Ball and Alfie Boe. In total, John has released six critically acclaimed solo albums which he also produced.

The Dandara-sponsored Manx Music Festival runs from 23rd to 30th April 2022 with over 200 classes in music, speech and drama.  On Friday, 29th, the six best singers will compete against each other for the coveted Cleveland Medal, the highest accolade for singing in the Isle of Man.

During the evening John will adjudicate the Cleveland Final and will then perform a selection of his favourite songs, including classics from Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.

While on the Island, John will also host an Acting through Song performance masterclass. Dandara Group Marketing Director Jo Orton commented: ‘The Manx Music, Speech and Dance Festival is the largest participation event in the Isle of Man’s cultural scene and has a long and illustrious history.

‘We are pleased our support has helped it go from strength to strength and look forward to the added spectacle of such an accomplished West End performer being involved in 2022.’
