Tuesday 23 November in Sport

Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb has successfully organised their second ‘Night Orienteering’ event at Conrhenny Wood on Thursday 4th November.

Participants had one hour to find as many of the orienteering control marker flags located at different features around the Wood, with the added difficulty of navigating in the dar

Everyone gathered at the start with their head torches on, maps in their hands, ready for the start at 6.30pm. Then they were off

‘It was a great evening for undertaking night orienteering as it was clear, cool and dry. It was wonderful to see the various head torches heading off in different directions from the mass start. (William Higgins - IOMOK development officer).

Everyone enjoyed the event, with participants recalling different experiences on their return to the finish. Many participants indicated it was something they would do again and it is an activity they would also encourage others to undertake.

‘What a great activity! I enjoyed the challenge of navigating through the Wood in the dark searching for the flags in different locations. I would certainly do it again’. (Participant from an adult group).

‘It was great fun running around in the dark searching for the orienteering flags using my torch and map. I was very excited when I found the flags’. (Adult participant).

‘A good mixture of locations for the orienteering flags that were not too difficult to navigate to and find in the dark. Another great orienteering event organised by Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb’. (Experienced orienteering participant).

Top 3 Positions -
1st - Matthew Garratt
2nd - Tony Garratt
3rd - Macnair Adult Group

Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb would like to thank DEFA for their support in allowing them to use the venue as well as Ballabrooie Farm & Adventurous Experiences for the bags of apples and prizes for the top 3 positions.

They also would like to thank participants for coming along to take part in this event and the members of the Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb who helped to organise, set-up and run the event once again.

The next orienteering event is the annual Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb Boxing Day event, which will be held at Archallagan Forest. Registration is between 9.30 - 10.15am with a mass start at 10.30am. Participants will have one hour to find as many of the controls marked on their map. This is an ideal opportunity for family and friends to come along and have a bit of fun and friendly competition during the Christmas holidays, as well as providing the more serious orienteers with a navigational challenge.
